Influenced as much by the comics, that I read as a child, as by great artists such as
Toulouse Lautrec and Joan Eardley, I enjoy making pictures about the rhythm, humour and rawness of everyday life.
I often get a feeling of connection and empathy with situations and characters that I draw but it is only by experimenting
with the image that the idea becomes visible. My reckless and slaphappy printing style takes the work
in unexpected directions, introducing splashes, blotches, odd colour combinations and textures that inject
energy and emotion, until, sometimes, it gains a life of its own.
I often use bright colours to try and capture the excitement and sounds of an activity that I love – music, dance, playgrounds, the seaside.
